Kali Salwar (2001) Works of Avijit Mukul Kishore

A feature film written and directed by Fareeda Mehta, starring Surekha Sikri, Sadiya Siddiqui, Irfan Khan, Jeetu, Shastri, Vrajesh Hirjee, Kay Kay, Sheeba Chaddha & Ashok Banthia, and photographed by Avijit Mukul Kishore. It was based on a short story by Sadat Hassan Manto. Kali Salwar is the story of Sultana, a small town prostitute coming to a big city in search of fortune and her desire for a kali salwar (black traditional pants worn by women in south Asia) and her relationships with the the men and the world.

The film has been shown in different international film festivals including Indian Panorama in India Film festival, Goteborg film festival, International film festival Rotterdam (2003) and Durban International Film festival (2003).
