The Last to Sail Orthodox Jews community in Cochin a documentary film by Arun Chadha (1990)
The Last to Sail (1990), was a film on dwindling community of Jews in Cochin (Kochi, Kerala) in south India. Jews, had found refuge from persecution in Cochin many centuries ago. Now the lure of better life in Israel was claiming the youth, who were all emigrating. The film explored the life from the perspective of the few elderly Jews left to look after the synagogue of Cochin.
Arun has been fascinated by social anthropology of minority communities. Another of his well-known documentaries explored the lives of Armenians living in Calcutta.
